Independent truckers insurance (Florida or Texas)

Primary Liability Policies:

  1. Eligibility Criteria for Drivers:
    • Only owner-operators are covered.
    • Age requirement: between 30 and 62 years.
    • Must hold a valid medical card and driver’s license.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the operating class within the United States.
  2. Driving Record Criteria:
    • Any accidents within the past 3 years require a police report.
    • DUI and/or drug charges within the past 5 years lead to denial.
    • More than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years result in denial.
    • Certain severe violations within the past 3 years are grounds for denial.
    • Rear-end accidents lead to denial; other accidents are considered depending on circumstance.
  3. Policy Cancellation Criteria:
    • Accidents involving fatality or total vehicle loss may result in mid-term cancellation.
    • Accidents resulting in a Personal Injury Protection (PIP) payout within the past 5 years are excluded.
  4. Exclusions:
    • Drivers with specific medical histories or involvement in previous fatalities will be excluded from coverage. Additionally, any driver who has undergone hip, leg, shoulder, or arm surgery within the last 5 years will also be ineligible for coverage.
    • Fuel haulers, log haulers, and individuals with broker authority are excluded.
    • Non-DOT compliant vehicles are excluded.
  5. Application Requirements:
    • Recent 3-year loss runs (within 30 days) from the previous insurance carrier. In the event that it is a new venture, must provide most recent 1099 or W2′ s for the past 3 years prior experience in the type of unit being considered for coverage.
    • If you as a driver were contracted or leased to work for another company, you will need to submit certain documents for consideration. Specifically, they should provide: current insurance loss runs, and 1099s or W2s.
    • Motor vehicle operating class requirements must be met. Read the following:

Motor Vehicle Operating Class Requirements:

  • Class A for any truck and trailer combination with a GVW of 26,001 lbs or more while towing a second unit with a GVW. of 10,000 lbs. or more.
  • Class B for vehicle with GVW (gross vehicle weight) of 26,001 lbs. or more up to 80,000 lbs. Includes 80,000 lb. dump trucks.

Motor Truck Cargo Insurance Policies:

  1. Coverage Exclusions:
    • No coverage for seafood or electronics.
    • All hauled commodities must be listed.
  2. Deductibles and Coverage Limitations:
    • Deductible is $2,500; $5,000 if trailer is over 10 years old.
    • Coverage limited to owner-operators only.
  3. Submission Requirements:
    • Complete current MVR report attached (within 30 days).
    • Purchase order or title required for new ventures.
    • Current insurance loss runs report and registration or cab card if applicable.
    • New venture, must provide most recent 1099 or W2′ s 3-year employment history with a minimum income requirement of $35,000.
  4. Quote Process:
    • Allow up to 48 hours for a quote.
    • Coverage binding may take up to 7 days after receiving the quote.

Note: We only seek to insure tractors and dump trucks, we can include primary liability coverage along with other policies like Motor Truck Cargo or Physical Damage if requested. But does not write Motor Truck Cargo or Physical Damage policies alone. Further note this process overall can take up to 2 weeks to get the insurance coverage you are seeking.

Documentation Needed to Start Policy:

  1. Complete current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
  2. Quotation Request Form complete
  3. Purchase order or title (for new ventures).
  4. Current insurance loss runs report (if applicable).
  5. We will need registration card or cab card (if applicable).
  6. If new venture, 3-year employment history making over $35,000/year.
  7. 1099s or W2s for leased periods with other companies (if applicable).
