Whether you ride a cruiser, a sport bike or a touring bike, a motorcycle policy is built around the bike and how you ride it. Dupuy Insurance compares motorcycle insurance for Florida riders across the carriers we work with, and explains what each option covers.
Coverage to consider
- Liability: injuries or damage you cause to others.
- Collision and comprehensive: damage to your bike from a crash, theft, fire, vandalism or weather.
- Uninsured and underinsured motorist: when the other driver has little or no insurance.
- Medical payments: help with your own medical costs after an accident, depending on the policy.
- Custom parts and gear, roadside help: optional on many policies.
Florida’s insurance rules for motorcycles differ from those for cars. We’ll explain what applies to you, and what your lender requires if the bike is financed.

Common questions
Does my car insurance cover my motorcycle?
Usually not. A motorcycle generally needs its own policy, even if the same carrier insures your car. Ask about a multi-policy discount where the carrier offers one.
How are Florida’s rules for motorcycles different?
Motorcycles aren’t subject to the personal injury protection (PIP) requirement that applies to cars. Riders 21 and older who ride without a helmet must carry at least $10,000 in medical benefits coverage. After some accidents or violations, Florida’s financial responsibility law can require proof of liability coverage.
Is my passenger covered?
It depends on the policy. Some policies include passenger liability, and others offer it as an option. Tell us if you ride with a passenger and we’ll check the quote includes it.
